I jumped in the car and we headed for Clepington road. That was where the vet was. Strange I never liked the name it scared me. I felt sorry for Lucy meowing she had never liked traveling in the car, it was always really stressing for her. After waiting several minutes we were called in to the theatre. I opened the door of the cat carry and Lucy ran on to the table. The vet did the thing they always do, the check up thing. Then we heard the news"Lucy's eye doesn't look good do you know what happened?" Martin (our vet) asked softly"We're not sure really. We went on holiday for to weeks and when we came back today it looked like this. Is it an infection? "Replied mum She seemed shocked I could tell by the look on Martins face that it was more serous than we thought."Well can you tell us what's wrong with her? " I said in a demanding voice "Be polite! "Mum snapped I could see she was angry."Well," sighed Martin "I hate having to give bad news but I think Lucy has cancer.""Oh is it really bad, is she going to die?" As days went bye she became more and more poorly. I started worrying at school about her, weather she would still be there when I got back and If the lump would explode (doubted that one).We kept having to take her to the vets to get injections to keep her stable . I knew it was going to come some day soon. At first I thought it was going to be just a simple eye infection but it turned out to be cancer. We could have done an operation to remove the cancer but she was 16 which is old for a cat so we didn't want to put her through it plus we didn't really have the money to pay for it. I came home on Wednesday Mum was sitting on the sofa stroking Lucy. I walked over and sat next to her we cried. Then she told me She and Frank were taking Lucy to the vets on Friday to be "put to sleep" I couldn't believe it not only was I not coming but She hadn't even asked me If I thought that it was the right time. I was furious I ran to my room screaming and crying! I was in there for about half an hour but, it seemed ages. I came out and mum explained that she thought it would be best if I didn't see it, but in the end I managed to persuade her to let me come. She had been there all my life and now she was going to go, I couldn't imagine life with out her. I was so sad, I just couldn't stop crying. What would I get as another pet? Nothing could replace her. The night went on mum was very distressed we could both see that Lucy was in pain as we fed her some prawns and cat milk they were her favorites. About five minutes later mum told me that she had called the surgery and Frank and that we were taking Lucy in to night. I was so shocked I didn't know what to do. I didn't have any time to do any thing though, the wets was closing at half seven and we didn't have much time. We met frank outside the vets and waited in the reception area. Mum gave me one last chance to stay behind."Are you sure you want to do this?" cried mum"Yes mum I'm sure, can we just go in now." I shouted Mum could see I was angry so she daren't say any thing else. We walked in and Mum placed Lucy on the table. Her eye looked like a big red beetroot just waiting to explode. We had martin again, he went into the back room. I presumed that he was getting the injection ready. He came out holding a syringe with clear liquid in it; I almost couldn't bear to look. He took hold of Lucy's neck and inserted the needle it was like seeing it all in slow motion. I turned round and squeezed mums hand tightly. "Its done now." sighed Martin.I could see she was still alive her stomach was moving up and down but every second it got slower, slower and slower. Then about ten seconds later It stopped the moment had finally come she was goneIt was hard the next few days getting along with out her. There was no Lucy on the sofa when I got home, no Lucy on my bed when I woke up in the morning; no Lucy at all.
