LucyWe had just got in the door when the phone rang. I ran to get it but before I could get to it the ringing stopped. I walked slowly to the door observing the things on the wall. Every thing seemed so strange as if I had never lived there before. I didn't really know why I had only been away two weeks. I grabbed my bag and went to my room to start unpacking. I couldn't wait to phone all my friends. I can't believe it but I was actually excited about going back to school. About ten minutes later the phone rang again I got up from my bed only to see that mum had already answered it. I heard her saying "Gwen" that's my aunt's name. It seemed strange that she was phoning so soon we had only been in fifteen minutes, maybe she had missed us so much she just couldn't wait I doubted it though because we only spoke to her about every three weeks. I didn't really know what was going on, I tried to listen but mums words were mumbled so I didn't really catch much. I hadn't asked yet but I was going too soon, I had missed her so much. Lucy of course she's my cat. I hadn't seen her for three weeks she went to my aunts the week before we left. The house was like without her. Mum came off the phone. "When are we going to get Lucy?" I asked mum.Buy cheap Lucy term paper
I had a suspicion that the phone call was about that. I didn't want to say too much."We are going to see her now "replied mum "Come on then, get your things and get in the car. We don't want to be to long" Although this was a bit strange, I just went along with it .Mum had to tell me sometime soon about what was going on.We drove along as normal then mum told me."There's something wrong with Lucy's eye we need to take her to the vets" mum said softly"That's all "I yelled "sssh you don't need to shout ,your right next to me . Anyway we won't know what's really wrong until we take her to the vets.""Why didn't Gwen take her to the vets?" I asked puzzled "I'm not quite sure, I think she wanted to wait and get our consent first," laughed mumAs we drove along Blackness road I looked for the green snake in the window. There it was number 116 and as usual no parking spaces outside luckily there was one across the road we parked and climbed out the car. Now the hard part crossing the road. Mum grabbed my hand as if it was a leash, pulled it and we ran across the road just dodging a car. Then she gave me a lecture about not doing that ever again and how I must always use a crossing if there is one. Typical .I ran up to the door I was so exited I couldn't wait to see Lucy Gwen opened the door, she must of seen us coming. "Hey come on in. Tea, coffee or biscuit perhaps? Oh how was your holiday, did you have a good time have any pictures? Don't stand there sit down I'll be through in a min with the drinks." We always had the same to drink, I don't really know why. Mum would have a tea with lots of milk and no sugar and I would have ribena. Gwen always made it way to strong; still at least it was drinkable. I wondered through to the kitchen to find Lucy. She was sitting beside her water bowl eating cat biscuits that had fallen on the floor round her mat. It seemed unusual she is a very fussy cat and doesn't usually eat half the food that is put out on her plate. I stroked her she was molting everywhere still it seemed she was still eating she hadn't lost any weight, if any thing she had put on weight. Gwen always spoilt her. Then I noticed it the big, swollen, horrible, soggy, bulge on her eye It looked like some sort of nasty infection, I couldn't be sure though. Hopefully it wouldn't be that bad. She did look pretty sick. After chatting for some time mum decided it was time to go because the vet would be shutting soon .Mum always gets way too caught up in her conversations. It's like two annoying flies that I can't swat away. Usually mum takes at least five minutes to say her good byes but this time we literally just left. I didn't know what time it was because I had lost my watch again but, I presumed we were running pretty late. When as we dashed out mum realized that we had forgotten the most important thing Lucy. Mum ran and I waited by the curb. It was only a matter of seconds before mum was back out holding the cat carry. I waited on that side whilst mum turned the car round. I jumped in the car and we headed for Clepington road. That was where the vet was. Strange I never liked the name it scared me. I felt sorry for Lucy meowing she had never liked traveling in the car, it was always really stressing for her. After waiting several minutes we were called in to the theatre. I opened the door of the cat carry and Lucy ran on to the table. The vet did the thing they always do, the check up thing. Then we heard the news"Lucy's eye doesn't look good do you know what happened?" Martin (our vet) asked softly"We're not sure really. We went on holiday for to weeks and when we came back today it looked like this. Is it an infection? "Replied mum She seemed shocked I could tell by the look on Martins face that it was more serous than we thought."Well can you tell us what's wrong with her? " I said in a demanding voice "Be polite! "Mum snapped I could see she was angry."Well," sighed Martin "I hate having to give bad news but I think Lucy has cancer.""Oh is it really bad, is she going to die?" I inquired "Come on lets not talk about this now, I had better get you off to bed," Yawned mum "see you in a week martin. On the way all I could think about was CANCER. What type of cancer? Was Lucy going to die, or could she have an operation? Was it really cancer? How big would the lump get? At this stage know one knew.Mum seemed angry with me, so I did as told and went straight to bed .I could hear her later talking on the phone to Gwen. This time I knew what it was about so there was no need to try and listen in on the conversation. I just went to sleep. The next few days seemed to be ok. My friends were giving me sympathy, we always had guests coming to visit and see how Lucy was doing. I think she was having a great time even though it didn't look it we were feeding her fresh prawns and luxury cat foods, which some cats could only dream of eating. Come to think about it now we must have spent a fortune on her. Maybe if the lump on her face was sore it might not of been as great I couldn't tell what she was thinking, I could only guess. As days went bye she became more and more poorly. I started worrying at school about her, weather she would still be there when I got back and If the lump would explode (doubted that one).We kept having to take her to the vets to get injections to keep her stable . I knew it was going to come some day soon. At first I thought it was going to be just a simple eye infection but it turned out to be cancer. We could have done an operation to remove the cancer but she was 16 which is old for a cat so we didn't want to put her through it plus we didn't really have the money to pay for it. I came home on Wednesday Mum was sitting on the sofa stroking Lucy. I walked over and sat next to her we cried. Then she told me She and Frank were taking Lucy to the vets on Friday to be "put to sleep" I couldn't believe it not only was I not coming but She hadn't even asked me If I thought that it was the right time. I was furious I ran to my room screaming and crying! I was in there for about half an hour but, it seemed ages. I came out and mum explained that she thought it would be best if I didn't see it, but in the end I managed to persuade her to let me come. She had been there all my life and now she was going to go, I couldn't imagine life with out her. I was so sad, I just couldn't stop crying. What would I get as another pet? Nothing could replace her. The night went on mum was very distressed we could both see that Lucy was in pain as we fed her some prawns and cat milk they were her favorites. About five minutes later mum told me that she had called the surgery and Frank and that we were taking Lucy in to night. I was so shocked I didn't know what to do. I didn't have any time to do any thing though, the wets was closing at half seven and we didn't have much time. We met frank outside the vets and waited in the reception area. Mum gave me one last chance to stay behind."Are you sure you want to do this?" cried mum"Yes mum I'm sure, can we just go in now." I shouted Mum could see I was angry so she daren't say any thing else. We walked in and Mum placed Lucy on the table. Her eye looked like a big red beetroot just waiting to explode. We had martin again, he went into the back room. I presumed that he was getting the injection ready. He came out holding a syringe with clear liquid in it; I almost couldn't bear to look. He took hold of Lucy's neck and inserted the needle it was like seeing it all in slow motion. I turned round and squeezed mums hand tightly. "Its done now." sighed Martin.I could see she was still alive her stomach was moving up and down but every second it got slower, slower and slower. Then about ten seconds later It stopped the moment had finally come she was goneIt was hard the next few days getting along with out her. There was no Lucy on the sofa when I got home, no Lucy on my bed when I woke up in the morning; no Lucy at all.
